School Completion Programme

The School Completion Programme (SCP) was set up as part of the Department of Education and Skills Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools (DEIS) Strategy, and is now under the remit of TUSLA, the Child & Family Agency.

Its aim is to increase the numbers of young people staying in primary and second level education and in doing so improve the numbers of pupils who successfully complete at the Senior Cycle level.  The SCP work focuses on targeting and providing supports to young people identified to be most at risk of early school leaving.

Laois SCP works with students from the following schools in the Laois area:

  • Portlaoise College, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise
  • Mountrath Community School, Mountrath
  • Scoil Bhride National School, Knockmay

The SCP is a year round programme and offers supports for students Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and through the school holidays. The Programme works in co-operation with many other relevant agencies including the Education Welfare Board, Knockmay family Resource Centre EWB and the Birchgrove Centre, Laois Co. Council Sports office, Portlaoise GAA Cúl Camps & Laois Sports Partnership and  Laois Traveller Action Group.
