Art for Beginners

  • Come and explore your creativity through this beginners' guide to drawing and painting
  • Discover how to mix colours and experiment with watercolours, acrylics and collage techniques
  • Learn how to draw using texture and 3D shading effects as you explore pencil, charcoal and pastel mediums
  • Create landscapes, still life or abstract drawings and paintings of your choice
  • A relaxed class, ideal for beginners or improvers in a friendly supportive atmosphere

 

Dressmaking

This course shows the steps required to complete a garment such as a dress.

The course will cover:

  • How to read and follow a pattern
  • Choosing the appropriate material
  • Measuring
  • Applying the pattern to material, pinning and use of chalk line
  • Layout, size of garment, and use of cutting sheers

Materials required on first night:

  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Pillowcase or other practice material

 

Beginner Spanish

This course will cover:

  • An introduction to the Spanish Alphabet
  • Pronunciation and phonetics
  • “Survival Spanish” for everyday living
  • Articles, definite and indefinite
  • Nouns to include gender and number
  • Adjectives and pronouns, both personal and demonstrative
  • The verb “to be”
  • Affirmative and negative sentences, forming questions and answers
  • Conjugation of regular and irregular verbs in the present tense

 

Spanish for Improvers

This course will cover:

  • Basic constructions with infinitives
  • Immediate future tense ("ir" + "a" + verb)
  • “Modal” verbs ("tener que", "hay que", "saber" y "conocer")
  • Possessive pronouns and adjectives
  • Reflexive and reciprocal pronouns
  • Simple (preterit) past tense (regular verbs & irregular verbs)
  • Imperative (or command) form (affirmative and negative)
  • Direct and indirect object pronouns

 

Photography for Beginners

We all have a phone or SD card full of images – some get posted on social media and others never see the light of day!

In this course you will learn how to take a photo that looks great, understand how to take a great photo and get a solid understanding of how your camera/camera on your phone works.  You will learn to master your camera and be able to create your own photo album or canvas using online services which are available to everyone.  This course is suitable for beginners of all ages.

You will learn:

  • Understand your camera/phone and how it works
  • How to take great photos using light and composition
  • How to edit and crop your images for the best result
  • Learn to filter your photos and how to create a storybook – of your holidays, family events etc
  • How to create collages, calendars and wall art for your home or as gifts

Hair Care and Styling

This course is about personal hair care, styling and maintaining healthy well-groomed hair.

The course will cover:

  • An understanding of different hair types
  • An introduction to personal hair care and hair care product knowledge

Throughout the course you will:

  • Apply techniques for taming, curling and every day hair styling
  • Demonstrate plaiting, curling with practical use of GHDs and wands
  • Create up-styles
  • Demonstrate skills obtained during bring a model night

 

Christmas Cookery

This course gets you prepared for the holiday period, looking at menu ideas and scheduling what items need to be made in advance.

The course will cover:

  • Starters / Appetisers, Finger food and Canapés
  • Main courses for Christmas day dinner and Christmas parties
  • How to cook a turkey properly; make the stuffing & homemade gravy and sauces
  • Different dessert choices suitable for Christmas day and for a Christmas dinner party
  • Decorating Christmas cakes. How to make ginger bread men and mince pies

The tutor will have ingredients on the first night and students will need to buy their own ingredients each week after this.
