Upcoming Courses

Through our Community Education Service, we are offering some FREE classes on Saturday mornings to support the community of Portarlington and help people stay connected.  These classes will run in Portarlington FET. 

 

Stay Connected - Learn to use Smartphone and Tablets/iPads

Moving from a low-tech phone to a smartphone can feel like a learning leap. A smartphones biggest strength is the wide range of things you can do with it, but the number of things you can do and how you do them can often be confusing. This course will help you get the most from your smartphone. If you have a tablet, the same principles will apply.

Commencing Saturday 26th of September
Course Times: 9:45-11:45       
Duration: 6 weeks

Cooking on a Budget

  • Tips on shopping & having those essential cupboard ingredients
  • Learn to cook healthy dishes from scratch.
  • Basic sauces from scratch
  • Use up leftovers, cut down on waste and save money

Demonstration for the first class and tutor will give list of ingredients each week for you to buy.  In some cases, students may be able to avail of free ingredients supported by Laois Partnership.

Course Times: 10:15 - 12:15
Duration: 6 weeks

 

Beginner’s Guide to Drawing & Painting

Come and explore your creativity through this beginner’s guide to drawing and painting.

  • Discover how to mix colours and experiment with watercolours, acrylics and collage techniques.
  • Learn how to draw using texture and 3D shading effects as you explore pencil, charcoal and pastel mediums.
  • Create landscapes, still life or abstract drawings and paintings of your choice.
  • A relaxed class, ideal for beginners or improvers in a friendly supportive atmosphere.

The tutor will have supplies for the first session for demonstration purposes and give a short list of what is required for other classes keeping cost to a minimum.

Course Times: 10:30 - 12:30
Duration: 6 weeks

 

Mindfulness & Self-Care

Tips for relaxation and re-connection.  These weekly 1.5 hour classes will work on refocusing you and grounding you in the here and now.

Commencing: Saturday 17th of October 2020
Course Times: 9:30 - 11:00
Duration: 4 weeks

 

In line with HSA guidelines groups will be kept to the maximum allowed due to the 2 metre distance rule.
